{"id":3525,"date":"2017-10-30T17:24:43","date_gmt":"2017-10-30T17:24:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kubuntu.org\/?p=3525"},"modified":"2017-10-30T19:58:15","modified_gmt":"2017-10-30T19:58:15","slug":"plasma-5-11-2-and-other-goodies-now-in-artful-backports-ppa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kubuntu.org\/news\/plasma-5-11-2-and-other-goodies-now-in-artful-backports-ppa\/","title":{"rendered":"Plasma 5.11.2 and other goodies now in Artful backports PPA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2nd bugfix update (5.11.2) of the Plasma 5.11 series is now available for users of Kubuntu Artful Aardvark 17.10 to install via our backports PPA.<\/p>\n<p><em>Please note that 3 more bugfix releases are scheduled by KDE for Plasma 5.11, so while we feel these backports will be beneficial to enthusiastic adopters, users wanting to use a Plasma release with more stabilisation\/bugfixes &#8216;baked in&#8217; may find it advisable to stay with Plasma 5.10.5 as included in the original 17.10 Artful release.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>See the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kde.org\/announcements\/plasma-5.11.0.php\">Plasma 5.11 release announcement<\/a> and the release video below for more about the new features available.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nMFDrBIA0PM\" width=\"854\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In particular the new Plasma Vault can be installed &#8211; Install the <strong>plasma-vault<\/strong> package, and restart Plasma to make it available in the system tray. Note that an upstream issue means deletion of vaults must be done manually; see <a href=\"https:\/\/bugs.kde.org\/show_bug.cgi?id=385444\">KDE bug 385444<\/a> for instructions.<\/p>\n<p>The update also comes with an upgrade to the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kde.org\/announcements\/kde-frameworks-5.39.0.php\">KDE Frameworks 5.39<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Other goodies are also included in the backports PPA:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/community.kde.org\/KIO_GDrive\">Kio GDrive<\/a> &#8211; &#8220;KIO GDrive is a KIO slave that enables KIO-aware applications (such as Dolphin, Kate or Gwenview) to access and edit Google Drive files on the cloud&#8221; &#8211; Install package <strong>kio-gdrive<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Krita <a href=\"https:\/\/krita.org\/en\/item\/krita-3-3-1\/\">3.3.1<\/a> &#8211; The first bugfix release of the new <a href=\"https:\/\/krita.org\/en\/item\/krita-3-3-0\/\">Krita 3.3<\/a> series<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/psifidotos.blogspot.co.uk\/2017\/08\/latte-bug-fix-release-v071.html\">latte-dock 0.7.1<\/a> &#8211; An initial build of this exciting new dock application for KDE, which has recently become a KDE project &#8211; install package <strong>latte-dock<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To update, <a href=\"http:\/\/docs.kubuntu.org\/1704\/docs\/repositories.html#add-a-repository\">add the following repository<\/a> to your software sources list:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>ppa:kubuntu-ppa\/backports<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>or if it is already added, the updates should become available via your preferred update method.<\/p>\n<p>The PPA can be added manually in the Konsole terminal with the command:<\/p>\n<p><em>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa\/backports<\/em><\/p>\n<p>and packages then updated with<\/p>\n<p><em>sudo apt update<\/em><br \/>\n<em>sudo apt full-upgrade<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Upgrade notes:<\/p>\n<p>~ The Kubuntu backports PPA includes various other backported applications, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kde.org\/announcements\/kde-frameworks-5.39.0.php\">KDE Frameworks 5.39<\/a>, so please be aware that enabling the backports PPA for the 1st time and doing a full upgrade will result in a substantial amount of upgraded packages in addition to Plasma 5.11.<\/p>\n<p>~ The PPA will also continue to receive bugfix updates to Plasma 5.11 when they become available, and further updated KDE applications.<\/p>\n<p>~ While we believe that these packages represent a beneficial and stable update, please bear in mind that they have not been tested as comprehensively as those in the main Ubuntu archive, and are <a href=\"https:\/\/community.kde.org\/Kubuntu\/PPAs\">supported only on a limited and informal basis<\/a>. Should any issues occur, please provide feedback on our mailing list [1], IRC [2], and\/or file a bug against our PPA packages [3].<\/p>\n<p>1.
