The Kubuntu community is proud to announce the release of 12.04 LTS, the Precise Pangolin: the new Long Term Support version of our friendly operating system. <\/p>\n
See the Kubuntu 12.04 LTS Release Notes<\/a> for a technical description including known issues.<\/p>\n Built on Ubuntu’s core and polished with KDE\u2019s applications and workspaces, Kubuntu 12.04 LTS is a grand example of friendly, fast and beautiful software. We recommend it as the perfect OS for casual users, students, Linux gamers, software developers, professionals, and anyone interested in a free, open platform that is both beautiful and useful. <\/p>\n Direct upgrades to 12.04 are only possible from 10.04 LTS and 11.10. <\/p>\n Download an image<\/a>.<\/p>\n Instructions for burning the image to a CD\/DVD or USB flash drive can be found on the Burning ISO Howto<\/a>.<\/p>\n We recommend you learn how to check your CD image<\/a> so your pre-release is as its supposed to be. Compare your MD5 checksum with the correct ones found alongside the CD images<\/a>.<\/p>\n The latest stable release of KDE’s Plasma Workspaces and Applications<\/a> brings new features and improvements all around. Highlights include :<\/p>\n For more details see the Plasma 4.8<\/a> and KDE Apps 4.8<\/a> release pages.<\/p>\n This new and improved version of the default music player features re-written USB mass storage support, native support for remote NFS & SMB\/CIFS collections, GPodder.net podcast synchronisation and an integrated Amazon MP3 store.<\/p>\n For more information have a look at the release announcement for Amarok<\/a>.<\/p>\n The WebKit based browser Rekonq has been updated to make it faster and more stable.<\/p>\n The OwnCloud self-hosting cloud solution has also had a major upgrade with slicker UI and more apps such as a streaming music player.<\/p>\n Our Muon update tool has had a lot of improvements. Updates are split up into three sections for easier browsing. A changelog viewer allows you to examine what is new. During update installation, a progress bar shows download and installation progress. Our Muon Software Center has improvements including warning when an application removal will remove other packages and a more friendly screenshot viewer.<\/p>\n More details on Muon 1.3.0<\/a> blog post by the author Jonathan Thomas.<\/p>\n We have provided some new and interesting software for use.<\/p>\n A new life for the old KOffice suite brings the document and creativity suite to a new audience. Now features top MS Office file import filters.<\/p>\n Calligra comes with the DVD images and is available from Muon Software Center.<\/p>\n Instant Messaging has changed and so has our software with Telepathy KDE. You can easily set it up to talk on GTalk or Facebook as well as MSN and many other protocols.<\/p>\n KDE Telepathy is available from Muon Software Center.<\/p>\n Kubuntu Active is a new Ubuntu flavour for tablets. It uses Plasma Active and the new UIs designed for tablets.
