Bringing the Latest KDE Plasma to Ubuntu’s Stable Core Wayland, Kernel 6.17, KDE Plasma 6.4 October 9, 2025 – The Kubuntu team is thrilled to announce the release of Kubuntu 25.10, codenamed “Questing Quokka”! As a community-driven flavor of Ubuntu, Kubuntu continues its mission to deliver the cutting-edge KDE software ecosystem on top of Ubuntu’s rock-solid foundation. This interim release, aligned with Ubuntu’s six-month cycle, packs in the freshest updates to Plasma, Frameworks, and applications, ensuring a smooth, performant desktop experience for millions of users worldwide.

Are you using Kubuntu 25.04 Plucky Puffin, our current stable release? Or are you already running our development builds of the upcoming 25.10 (Questing Quokka)? We currently have Plasma 6.3.90 (Plasma 6.4 Beta1) available in our Beta PPA for Kubuntu 25.04 and for the 25.10 development series. However this is a Beta release, and we should re-iterate the disclaimer: DISCLAIMER: This release contains untested and unstable software. It is highly recommended you do not use this version in a production environment and do not use it as your daily work environment.

We are pleased to announce that the Plasma 6.3.5 bugfix update is now available for Kubuntu 25.04 Plucky Puffin in our backports PPA. As usual with our PPAs, there is the caveat that the PPA may receive additional updates and new releases of KDE Plasma, Gear (Apps), and Frameworks, plus other apps and required libraries. Codenamed Plucky Puffin, Kubuntu 25.04 continues our tradition of giving you Friendly Computing by integrating the latest and greatest open source technologies into a high-quality, easy-to-use Linux distribution. The beta of Kubuntu Plucky Puffin (to become 25.04 in April) has now been released, and is available for download. This milestone features images for Kubuntu and other Ubuntu flavours. We have had many requests to make Plasma 5.27 available in our backports PPA for Jammy Jellyfish 22.04. However, for technical reasons this would have broken upgrades to Kinetic 22.10 while that upgrade path existed. Now that Kinetic is end of life, it is possible to allow opt in backports of plasma 5.27 for 22.04. As with the previous backport of plasma 5.25, version 5.27 is provided in the backports-extra PPA
